today they inspected our room for the traditional end-of-year thingy and, among other things, counted the windows.

guy #1: *sits on couch in living room*
guy #2: *goes into bedroom*
guy #1: what about windows? is there one?
[cim's brain: !!!!
...guy #2: one?! uh, no! it's gone!
...guy #1: gone? *fearing* but, but how?
...guy #2: dammit, jim, i'm a maintenance dude, not a brickmason!
]
[what actually happened]
guy #2: yep, one.
cim: um, surely there couldn't be a different number of windows from the last time you inspected?
guy #1: *jolly* ah, but you mighta torn the screen or something!
cim: ... ... ...oh.

ok--i seem to have finished, and it's not yet 4 am. so! four hours' sleep! woohoo! and on that note...

raisins for breakfast=probably better than no breakfast at all, right?

i slept, hm, four hours, which is about the length of a good nap, except before that i was up for quite a long time, and for about twenty minutes every time i did the subtraction i came up with three hours. *taps temple worriedly*

also, apparently it's really down in at least the sixties right now. my feeling: wtf? how dare it? i'm wearing a tank top and my sexy pants anyway. stupid fucking weather. i know i had some thought.

probably related to the freaky dream wherein i and some other girls were witnesses for how our college, in manufacturing airplanes, was mistreating its workers and i had to write the story v/ fast, many times, by hand.

alright, today:

all year they've been (a) building a building on one side of the quad behind my building and (b) driving heavy machinery back and forth in a businesslike manner, ripping up paved paths and putting down identical ones in exactly the same place (then yesterday some of them got bored of that and ripped up the flagstones on the patio only to replace them with identical flagstones--much more time-consuming).

anyway, the not-unpredictable result of all this was the death/vanishment of a whole lot of grass, which left about half the quad a highly unsightly brown color (ie, dirt). well, recently someone in maintenance seems to've come up with the idea of cosmetics. unfortunately for them they couldn't find quite the right color of spray paint (or spray rubber shit, whatever), so now the quad is partly green and partly this sort of alarming brilliant turquoise color.

great job, boys. great job. keep up the good work.

reminds me of the dave barry article when a little spot on his lawn died, so he painted the grass blades with watercolors and just as he was finishing a pizza-delivery boy drove up, "apparently sent by the God of Comedy Setup Lines" to say "looks like rain." "yup," dave replied, "and wouldn't you know it, i just painted the durn lawn!"

hee.

15 Ways You Know You Were Born to Write with [comments from some random guy] and {comments from me}

dad got it from a mailing list and sent it to me, so it's not aimed at fanfic writers so much. )

how funny is my inability with any language? um, well, it was funny to me. just to give you an idea, my translation followed by what it really meant.

and you came among the athenians from the ruling council, and the difficulty was told by night, and the wailing, from the port, has come through the walls into and throughout the city, one reporting to another.

in athens, the ship having arrived in the night, the misfortune was told of and the wailing from the port reached through the city along the long walls, one announcing it to another.

it's the silmarillion grown old and boring, with poor word choice. yeah. maybe i'll take a nap now that it's about 12 hours from when i originally went to bed last night. my head hurts.

some first lines--not too many, and v/ brief commentary. a few timbertrick (nsync) followed by a few lotrips.

they should call them "spicy fries of ultimate evil," just to avoid misunderstandings.

kk, and anyone else who is interested, general mills isn't owned by nestlé. thus golden grahams and other cereals do not help to starve babies in third world countries. which is, incidentally, what nestlé does, albeit not entirely directly. i'm not going to go burn a cross on the front lawn of their corporate headquarters, but neither am i going to buy things they own. golden grahams is distributed by nestlé in uk (info at that website) and internationally through a "joint venture," but general mills is its own gigantic megamultibilliondepartmentcorporation, no doubt with its own skeleton-filled closets.

information on the boycott here.

ok, apparently i'm a moron, or culturally illiterate:

WHERE did cj's bodyguard work? and... what is that?

kk got to witness a cat in possession of a dead mouse tonight, which reminded me that i saw that gorgeous fox today. it was trotting along on the paved pathway, between a few groups of students, just a few yards from me; then it cut away across the grass. it had a squirrel in its mouth. now, i don't really like squirrels, yet they're sort of cute. so generally, seeing them dead bothers me more from the "aw, it WAS cute" factor than from the "um, gore, no" factor. didn't bother me, though; the fox is so, so beautiful, infinitely more so than a squirrel, and after all, there wasn't any gore, just a sort of gray tail dangling out of the corner of its mouth. i want the fox to be happy. it's not like the squirrel is sentient.

my squick barriers are dropping right and left. what's up with that? were they, like, artificial to begin with? ok, well, if so, THAT'S a bit disturbing. and good riddance to them.

"you don't want me to answer that."
